Pastor’s Report
Jesus Is the Reason, But Is He Just a Season?
As we enter into this new year, many have already packed Christmas back into boxes. They’ve had enough of lights, carols, shopping, gifts, and cookies--time to get back to normal. But for too many, putting away Christmas also means putting away Jesus--no more church; no more reading Bible stories to the kids or explaining to them from the Bible why we do what we do. The holiday is over, and so is their faith, and so the song fades into the night sky. The shepherds went back to work in the fields and the wise men returned to their country, so some people reason that they, too, should return to the way it was before Christmas.
But neither the shepherds nor the wise men returned to their worlds unchanged. Tradition and archeology tell us much about the spreading of the news of the King from heaven who was born. Certainly, Mary and Joseph’s lives were totally redirected because of Christmas. How about yours?
Are Christmas and Jesus just a season of your life? A short-lived fling? A good feeling? A song in the night? Or is Christmas more?
The Gospel of John
Chapter 1:
1In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2He was with God in the beginning. 3Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. 4In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. 5The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it…9The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world.
10He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. 11He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. 12Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God— 13 children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.
14The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.
Chapter 3:
16For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 18Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son. 19This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil.
Keep Christmas alive! Celebrate Jesus every day, and join the family of believers every Sunday to worship and grow in Him.

2011
Looking back over the past year, I want to give thanks to God for all His and all your hard work. We have seen some wonderful healings this past year. Some marriages have been refocused. Spouses returned to church with family. People have been healed of diseases. Family members admitted to drug and alcohol addictions and they overcame the addictions with the help of God and family.
We were blessed by all of you who rallied together to provide the Nancy Fitzpatrick Praise Bus and all the behind-the-scenes work to make it happen. We especially acknowledge Russ and Carol Ranck.
We made addition improvements to the nursery through the efforts of the Sachs family.
Twice this year, our building almost caught on fire, but both times it happened when people were around and the disaster was prevented.
We saw the miracle of Jocelyn Moore, our choir director—how she showed up one Sunday while on the way to another church, just when we had the need for a new choir director.
After worries about lack of Youth Ministry leaders, each group now has leadership as individuals stepped forward to give of their time to share the truth with others. As we contemplated securing a loan for our new building project, a financial lender, who simply wanted to answer God’s call and help this church, stepped forward to make the needed funds for our church loan and building project a reality.
We had our live nativity and, once again, you and the animals showed up to tell the story of Christmas.
The choir sang; Sunday School teachers taught; koinonia leaders, Freedom members, TNP members, drama team members, bell choir members, and praise dancers all showed up and all shared their love for Jesus with all of us and our children.
Gary Rushton and Eugene Ewan oversaw our sound board. Cindy Sabo ensured we have awesome PowerPoint slides for the 8:15 am service.
Behind the scenes, the money got collected and counted and bills were paid all by you giving your time. Planning for the new building was accomplished through volunteers like Don Harbert and Ryan Day giving so much of themselves.
And so many more of you contributed your gifts and talents in many diverse ways by visiting others, discovering and responding to needs. You made coffee; brought food; and offered a shoulder, an ear, a meal, a gift, and your love. Together we got to see God at work, making this church a very special family.
Thank you for a great year! See you in church!
Pastor Joe

Inspiration for the New Year: My Child...I will redeem the time for you
I know that sometimes you look back on your life with anguish and regret--so much time wasted on things that did not matter. But take heart, My Love, I am your Redeemer, and today is a new day. So start now by seeking My plans, which are to give you hope and a future. Just as I used hardship in Joseph's life to lead him to a position of leadership, influence, and blessing, I've also called you. I will use your past to carve into your character everything you need for the here and now. I want you to let your past experiences teach you and not torment you. Remember...I will always turn into good what others meant for harm. I will redeem what was lost and place you on the narrow road that leads to everlasting life.
Love, Your King and Redeemer
(from His Princess: Love Letters from Your King by Sheri Rose Shepherd
"For I know the plans I have for you," Declares the Lord, "Plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." Jeremiah 29:11, NIV

Deacons’ Helping Hands
We hope you had a joyful and blessed Christmas! 2011 was a busy year for us, and God provided everything we needed for our various missions. You played a huge part by freely and lovingly answering every request for help that we made. We want you to know that the Board of Deacons is truly blessed by YOU!
We have many missions at this time of the year, and you were there with open hearts and eager hands. You supplied us with enough provisions and cash to provide 18 Thanksgiving baskets that fed 34 adults and 40 children. The baskets were gaily decorated by our Sunday school classes, and they looked great! We also provided 21 Christmas baskets that fed 5 adults and 4 children. The Christmas baskets were decorated with garland, and Christmas stockings were filled with treats for the children.
This past year, you helped us provide Christmas gifts for 26 angels. You really outdid yourselves. The presents looked beautiful, and the people who picked them up were truly grateful. Please keep these children in your prayers!
Once again, our wonderful congregation and Sunday school classes sent Christmas cards to the residents at Parkwoods. Each of the 157 residents there received 3 cards. Thank you for taking time out of your busy days to share with these lovely people who look forward receiving to your cards. Reaching out with Christ's love is what Christmas is truly about.
Here we are, on the other side of Christmas! Did you get that new coat you hoped for? If so, please donate your former, clean coat to the residents of Parkwoods. Warm sweaters, gloves, and hats are also welcome. Please mark your donations "Parkwoods" and leave them on the front porch of the manse by Sunday, January 15th.
As we enter into this new year, the deacons look forward to hearing from you. If we can assist you or a family you know with a food donation or some other urgent need, please contact the church office. All requests will be held in the strictest confidence, so please be encouraged to reach out when you have the need. Your need is our mission. It is our way of spreading Christ’s love.

Bluebirds
We had a lovely Christmas luncheon at the Olive Garden. It was very special to have Pastor Joe join us.
We are beginning to organize our plans for activities and fund raisers in the months to come.
Please join us for our special “tea” in May. All are welcome.
We meet on the last Thursday of the month at 1 pm at the church. Any changes will be in the Sunday bulletin or call to confirm. Help us make the Bluebirds a productive and friendly group in 2012.

L.A.Y. Ministry
I wrote a Christmas poem when I first came to this church so many years ago. It was a joyful time. Since then, our lives have been changed so much and we get discouraged. Isn’t it a miracle that Jesus is still alive looking after for all of us, despite what is challenging in our world?
In the months to come, as we enter 2012 and beyond, we’d like to share stories of when you personally realized that Jesus was truly “looking after you.” We have been given the gift of this church, and the comfort and caring of those around us. Sharing our joys and sorrows as Jesus guides can only bring us closer together. Please consider sharing these personal times with us in the months to come. They can be sent to me or sent via email to the church office with or without your name.
May we all share a blessing in the new year.

Koinonia-Kindred Spirits
In 2011, we studied the book of Revelation and now we are studying about angels. We have three more lessons on angels and by March we will be starting a new study. What a great time to join us! You can help choose the next study.
We have experienced great joy and great sorrow throughout the year and God has held our hands as Jesus carried us and gave us strength. We know that through all things He is faithful and lovingly surrounds us with His presence. As kindred spirits, we are there to support and uplift one another. This is one benefit of being part of a koinonia group. Please consider joining a group this new year.

 Session of Elders Reports 
Stewardship Committee
The stewardship committee would like to thank everyone who attended our “Faithful to the Future” dinner. We were blessed by the music of TNP, the food was terrific, and the bake sale was a huge success. Many thanks to all who crafted, baked, and bought.
As we look forward to 2012, we ask those of you who have envelopes to please make a faith-based pledge for the year. We need to have an idea of what each person feels he/she can give. Do not be afraid to “step out in faith.” Your pledge can always be amended as your circumstances warrant. We have received general fund pledges from only one third of our members. This makes it difficult to prepare the church's operating budget for the year. We also need to have pledges for the faith fund, especially now that our loan is in place.
Speaking of the faith fund and our building project, look for some other clever fund raising opportunities to come your way. We are always open to suggestions and ideas. Volunteering is also a form of stewardship, so jump in as you are able. 2012 should be a very good year.
Also, please do not forget to pick up your envelopes. They will be available in the narthex after each service. If you are unable to get them at either of those times, please call the church office and arrangements will be made to deliver them to you.

Missions Committee
I would like to thank everyone who helped make Christmas at Parkwoods possible. It meant a lot to the residents there. One man had pictures of Santa and him over the last 5 years. It gave him joy to share with us his photos that had been taken over the years. The residents also loved the cookies. We had more than enough to give seconds to all who wanted seconds. They also enjoyed singing Christmas carols. It would be nice if we could visit the residents all throughout the year. So singers, if you're up to it, let's think about going there during the spring to spread a little joy, music, and cookies.
I am looking for volunteers who want to serve lunch one day at Jean Webster's kitchen in Atlantic City. We are planning on going the 3rd Saturday in January. If you are interested in coming along, please notify me via email at cherylnduati@ymail.com, or call me at 856-725-0884.

Worship Committee
We had a very special and eventful Advent season here at church this past year. Pastor Joe dressed in costume and brought us four biblical characters, each important to the Christmas story. Thank you to all who participated in our worship services, from greeting and being a liturgist to helping out in the nursery and lighting our Advent wreath. Attendance was great at both the 8:15 am and 11:00 am services. Let’s keep that trend going throughout this year!
Our 7th Annual Christmas Variety Show was a huge success this year! We had it on December 17th and the church was packed once again. There were several musical acts and soloists, a few instrumental performances, and some great skits from the Drama Team. Thank you to everyone who performed and to all who attended. If you missed it this year, be sure to come out next year! You will be sure to leave having felt the true meaning of Christmas.
Our next family day service will be on January 29th at 10:00 am. It’s sure to be a special service that unites our church family once again.
In the next couple of months, we will be making some visual changes to the sanctuary, so keep your eyes looking up… and all around, too. We are also going to be asking for a bit more help in the nursery. A small suggestion I would like to make would be to volunteer in the nursery for the service that you don’t normally attend. That is, if you attend the 11:00 am service, put your name on the 8:15 am nursery list and vice versa. That way, the people attending that service not miss anything, and you could still attend the service of your choice. The more people who sign up, the less often you will be serving! We are one church family and giving our time selflessly to the children will only make our church that much stronger.
The Worship Committee meets the 3rd Monday each month at 7:30 pm. If you would like to get involved or help out in any area, please come out to our meetings. We also have a suggestion box in the narthex. All your suggestions are read at every meeting and discussed in great detail. Please remember this is your church and your family--your opinion is important. We do our best to make each and every member of our church family happy.
Thank you for allowing me to serve Christ and our church.

Bathroom/elevator update: The loan settlement took place on Thursday, December 22, 2011. The review of the construction contract with our attorney is scheduled for the second week of January 2012. If all goes well, we will be fully funded and under contract by the 3rd week of January 2012. Weather permitting, construction could start by the first week of February.

Kids4Christ Children’s Ministry
Kids4Christ children’s ministry is a wonderful way for children in 3rd – 5th grades to have fun and commune with God. There are plenty of games to be played before the lesson, where we, the leaders, teach the children about God. Our birthday party for Jesus was a rousing success as the kids came out to have fun.
We meet every 2nd and 4th Thursday from 6:30 to 8 pm. Lorean Foster and I are very excited to work with the children. Let's see some more come out!

C.I.A. (Christians in Action)
Our mission is to guide youth toward personal and spiritual growth by nurturing their faith in Christ.
C.I.A. met for the first time on December 15th. We had some new faces in the group, and their enthusiasm made for an extra special meeting. We are looking forward to the group growing in size, and we are encouraging all junior high kids to come out to our meetings. Don’t miss this chance to make friends through Christ’s teachings.
During our first meeting, we talked about our “Faith Challenge.” You might see the kids from C.I.A. wearing colored wristbands. This is part of our faith challenge. Each meeting, we have a challenge for the kids to pass. As they pass these challenges, they work toward their next colored wristband. The final goal is a wristband that glows in the dark, letting the kids know that God is with them always and His light will shine through them.
We meet on the first and third Thursdays of every month from 6:30 to 8:00 pm. If you have questions or need information, please contact Greg Schipske at gschipske3@verizon.net (856) 220-1522 or Amy Schipske at aschipske1@verizon.net (856) 220-1153.

IMPACT
Our mission as believers in Christ is to provide a safe place for youth where they can fellowship, serve the community, strengthen their walk with Christ, and grow as future leaders of the church.
IMPACT had their first meeting on December 11th, and there was a great turnout! Everyone is really excited for the upcoming year. We are working on raising money for Keswick and the ski trip. The spaghetti fundraiser will be coming up in January or February, and we’re looking into fundraising ideas to raise money for the ski house rental.
This year, IMPACT is looking to help out more around the church and learn more about how they can apply the Bible’s lessons to their own life struggles. We have a lot to look forward to in 2012. The 30-hour famine will be here before you know it!
We meet on Sundays at 6:00 pm. If you’re interested in joining IMPACT or would like more information, please contact Amy Troendle at amytroendle@gmail.com or 856-217-8514. You can also find us on Facebook!

Prayer Shawl Ministry
We are about to celebrate the first anniversary of the Prayer Shawl Ministry. To date, more than 40 people have been blessed with shawls. We have received many thank you notes that let us know just how meaningful these gifts have been:
"You have no idea how much that prayer blanket comforts me." "...she will be taking it with her to the hospital...." "God sends comfort through your hands." "When (she) came to visit and gave me the shawl, it was as if God's angel was in my presence." "...I could feel the Lord was with me..." "The prayer shawl is like a hug from God." "Oh my! What a joy to get it."
At the December meeting, the Prayer Shawl Ministry members decided to meet in the afternoon and quarterly rather than monthly; therefore, the next meeting will be on Monday, February 27th, at 3 pm at Pat Kunze's house (14 Hunters Ct, Atco--in the Woodstream development). Everyone is welcome, even if you don't knit or crochet! We need prayer warriors and helpers to fix the gift bags and deliver the shawls. If you are crafty and would like to make a shawl, call me for instructions. If you would like to learn to knit or crochet, let us know, and we will arrange a class.
If you know someone who needs a prayer shawl, complete a request form found in the narthex and place it in the offering plate or call Pat at 856-767-8741.

Written by Regina Brett
(90 Years Old)
"To celebrate growing older, I once wrote the 45 lessons life taught me. It is the most requested column I've ever written.”
My odometer rolled over to 90 in August, so here is the column once more:
1. Life isn't fair, but it's still good.
2. When in doubt, just take the next small step. 3. Life is too short to waste time hating anyone. Change the way you think.
4. Your job won't take care of you when you are sick. Your friends and family will. Stay in touch. 5. Pay off your credit cards every month. 6. You don't have to win every argument. Agree to disagree.
7. Cry with someone. It's more healing than crying alone.
8. Release your children when they become adults, it’s their life now.
9. Save for retirement starting with your first pay cheque. 10. When it comes to chocolate, resistance is futile. 11. Make peace with your past so it won't screw up the present.
12. It's OK to let your children see you cry. 13. Don't compare your life to others. You have no idea what their journey is all about. 14. If a relationship has to be a secret, you shouldn't be in it.
15. Everything can change in the blink of an eye. 16. Take a deep breath It calms the mind. 17. Get rid of anything that isn't useful, beautiful or joyful.
18. Whatever doesn't kill you really does make you stronger.
19. It's never too late to have a happy childhood. But the second one is up to you and no one else. 20. When it comes to going after what you love in life, don't take no for an answer.
21. Burn the candles, use the nice sheets, wear the fancy lingerie. Don't save it for a special occasion. Today is special.
22. Just because you believe you are right, doesn't mean you are. Keep an open mind.
23. Be eccentric now. Don't wait for old age to wear purple.
24. The most important sex organ is the brain. 25. No one is in charge of your happiness but you.
26. Frame every so-called disaster with these words 'In five years, will this matter?' 27. Always choose life.
28. Forgive everyone everything.
29. What other people think of you is none of your business.
30. Time heals almost everything. Give time time. 31. However good or bad a situation is, it will change. 32. Don't take yourself so seriously. No one else does. 33. Believe in miracles.
34. Your job is to love your children, not choose who they should love.
35. Don't audit life. Show up and make the most of it now.
36. Growing old beats the alternative -- dying young.
37. Your children get only one childhood. 38. All that truly matters in the end is that you loved. 39. Get outside every day. Miracles are waiting everywhere. 40. If we all threw our problems in a pile and saw everyone else's, we'd grab ours back. 41. Envy is a waste of time. You already have all you need.
42. The best is yet to come...
43. No matter how you feel, get up, dress up and show up.
44. Yield….
45. Life isn't tied with a bow, but it's still a gift.
